Whakatane Intermediate School – Visual Poetry Jam (27 July 2022)
Whakatane Intermediate was one of my favourite stops on the tour. Honestly just the sweetest kids. Attentive, curious, playful and talented. So enjoyed working with them and their very keen teacher Ms. Brooke Bayley.
Brooke had selected a group of her students to attend the workshop. I believe there were a few more selected but this was the height of the COVID outbreaks so school rolls were down.
On the day we mostly worked on the school grounds and really got to flex the power of the phones taking the students under the hood.
Unfortunately our vans engine blew in Hamilton the day before the workshop. So we were able to downsize our gear but still make it in time. This meant that we werent’ able to bring our boxes of rainbow colloured fabrics but this didn’t seem to be a problem as we used our emotions card deck to inspire acting and emotive photography among the students.
It was a great day with some great results from the students. Can’t wait to come back and see them again.
